Southwest Gallery features “Local Masters” show

Posted on

The “Local Masters” opening, a show at Southwest Gallery in Dallas featuring new works by John Cook and myself, had it’s unveiling on 12 May. Thank you to Southwest Gallery for hosting this show for us. Trying something different, the gallery switched from its normal Saturday afternoon opening to Friday night; they called it “Date Night”. There was an enthusiastic response from all who came…collectors, friends, family, and artists. It was a wonderful evening without a moments rest. Sales were minimal at the opening but I fully expect that to change over the course of the show that runs through June.

I was very pleased to be teamed up with John Cook, he is a phenomenal painter. I’ve known John for many years. We were fellow freelance illustrators in Dallas in the 1970’s and a little bit of 1980’s. What is so exciting about this show is the contrast. Cook’s work is bold, colorful, impressionistic, and full of energy, while mine is subtle, muted, naturalistic, and peaceful. I hope you can make it by Southwest Gallery to view the works up close. Many have expressed to me that they were surprised by the scale of the work, as photos just don’t do the works justice.
