7th Annual PleinAir Salon art competition

Posted on

PleinAir magazine is hosting its 7th Annual Plein Air Convention, 16-20 April, 2018, in Santa Fe, NM. Hundreds of artists will gather from around the world to paint together, see old friends, make new ones, watch painting demonstrations, and learn new things valuable to our profession. One of the highlights of the convention will be announcing the overall winners of six bi-monthly art competitions held during the previous six months. It’s kind of a big deal because the Grand Prize winner will take home a nice check for $15000.

Artists submitting their work in the bi-monthly competitions have 19 categories from which to choose. The top three overall winners, plus the winners in each of the 19 categories, automatically advance to the final judging to determine the Grand Prize winner. The bi-monthlies are extremely competitive and each is judged by a different juror. I failed to have a winning piece in either of the previous two bi-monthlies, but made up for it in the August/September competition, judged by David Leffel.

I’m always grateful when my work is recognized for its quality. (Click images to enlarge)
