Life is not a bowl of cherries, but more often than not, a bowl of unpleasant, distasteful, smelly fruit we wish we could throw out but can’t. The bowl that is ever with us is full of stress, conflict, injustice, sickness, fear, and death…so much so that we are, at times, weary of living. The load we carry around everyday is heavy and burdensome. It’s like a heavy wooden yoke pressing down upon our shoulders while attached to a heavy weight which we drag around day after day, year after year.
Jesus offers to help. He doesn’t promise to remove life’s burdens, but lighten them. When we entrust ourselves to Him, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within us. He guides us into all truth and becomes our comforter, counselor, helper, advocate, intercessor, protector and teacher. Because the Holy Spirit is present within us, the promise of Jesus stands: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11: 28-30)
In the midst of life’s worries and problems, we can have peace, knowing that God intimately knows and cares for each one that has placed their trust in Him. He proved this when He took upon Himself our sin, and conquered man’s greatest fear…death. Man inherently knows that there will be an accounting one day, yet he has no absolute assurance of his destiny, he just hopes he’s been good enough. Will he be with God forever in heaven or dwell in eternal darkness, separated from Him? Those that trust in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for sin have assurance of eternal life with Him… a promise made by God Himself, and that heavy, heavy burden of the fear of death is removed. Call upon Him today. You won’t be disappointed.
